Hello to my new subscribers, and welcome! You can get the backstory on this newsletter in this post, have your burning questions answered here, or share this with a friend via the button below. Thank you!
I have been online less and out in the world more this month (lots of live theatre, per this intention; also, some travel), but I have managed to gather some links to share with you, both Internet-everywhere and SB-specific. I hope you enjoy!
Onto the links…
a smattering of things I’ve been using, loving, reading, listening to, or thinking about
My closest childhood friend Sarah Sample and her creative partner Edie Carey dropped this gorgeous music video for their original track, Lantern in the Dark. The full album, which came out last fall, is available here.
Late to the party, we finally watched SNL50: The Anniversary Special and loved it (well, loved it in aggregate; just like with any SNL episode, we also skipped a couple of musical performances and cringed through several skits). My favorite parts were the musical theatre bits and shots of the audience.
Speaking of SNL, Amy Poehler’s new podcast is fun! I adore her and I’m enjoying the format so far.
I’ll leave you with possibly the most useless link of all time, which is the owner-managed Instagram account of the baby goat I befriended in Hawaii this month

a few items of note pertaining to my hometown - tell me what’s happening in yours in the comments!
I caught one of the final performances of a new play, Parents in Chains, featuring local resident Jane Lynch among other well-known performers.
We attend the VADA Draw every year, a fundraiser benefitting the public visual arts high school program our oldest attends. Every attendee walks away with a framed piece donated by a professional artist, and we got to choose ours early in the lottery this year. We picked a figure drawing by sculptor Eric Saint Georges, whom we got to meet at the event!
I go out to breakfast with my dad every Friday, and on one recent morning we tried Alma Fonda Fina’s newly expanded morning offerings. Possibly the best huevos rancheros I’ve had in town?
If I’m ever going to befriend JLD, I’m going to need to start going to events like these
There’s a guy in town making dog-inspired benches just for kicks, apparently.
That’s it for now! -S
That's the chef (Ramon Velasquez) who was featured on the new Meghan Markle show! He taught her to make a chicken dish that looks so good, I'm making it for Easter brunch next Sunday.
